Lake District

Swan Hotel Newby Bridge
The Swan Hotel Pool The Swan Hotel Spa The Swan at night
We are about to go away for a few days break to the Lake District, Cumbria, so no blogging for me for a few days.We will be staying at The Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge which is at the south end of Lake Windemere. www.swanhotel.com We last stayed there about five years ago and enjoyed the walks and the beautiful scenery. We also spent a Christmas at the The Lakeside Hotel which is in the same area and from where the steamers and boats sail. The trip up to Grassmere is very enjoyable and worth taking. The poet William Wordsworth (1770 -1850) is burried in the local churchyard in Grassmere. His "Daffodils" poem has to be one of my all time favourites.

  1. Oh I am so jealous! When I spend a semester of college (1977) studying in London, I took a class on the Romantic writers and enjoyed a long weekend walking in the Lake District. Then when I turned 40, my best girlfriend and I spent a week there, based in Hawskhead. We rambled for days, even did a walk following the world of Beatrix Potter, with a woman from the National Trust. It was the best birthday present ever! My husband is a gem. And the Lake District is simply an amazing and enchanting place. Hope you have a wonderful time.....
